PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PROFILES OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF HANDBALL PLAYERS

The purpose of the study was to know the physical and physiological profiles of different levels of male Handball players. Ninety male Handball players from different universities those who participate in intercollegiate, interuniversity and inter zonal tournament. Standardized test was applied to measure physical variable i.e. standing height, sitting height, leg length, upper arm length, forearm length, hand length, body composition and physiological variable i.e. resting pulse rate, resting B.P., vital capacity, resting respiratory rate, maximum breath holding time, air flow rate and cardio-vascular efficiency. Analysis of variance and LSD Post hoc test was applied to assess the significance difference among the group means. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The result of study showed that the entire physical variable of Handball players of different levels of achievement except hand length was different significantly. But, no significance difference in physiological variables of Handball players of different levels of achievement was found.

ROLE OF PHYSICAL COMPONENTS FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLE ATHLETES

Sport is a term that encompasses a broad spectrum of experiences that include the social, recreational, and competitive. Physical activity is widely accepted as a necessary component for individual health. Over recent years, there has been increased emphasis on the role of sport and physical activity in enhancing health and quality of life of individuals with disability and chronic illness (Goldberg, 1995). Individuals with disability can generally receive the same health benefits from exercise and sport training as their able-bodied counterparts.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PERCENTAGE BODY FAT AND LEAN BODY MASS OF DIFFERENT LEVEL LONG JUMPERS

The greater propagation of interest regarding a particular type of physique that provides an athlete with greater performance for particular sports, coming up around middle of twentieth century. The notion of classifying physique into some meaningful system has considerable appeal and has been the stimulus for repeated efforts in this direction. In this study, only those Long jumpers were selected, who had participated in national and state level Athletic Meet The athletes falling under the age between 19 and 24 years were studied. Percentage body fat and lean body mass measurements of all subjects were taken in the morning hours with empty bowl. The lean body mass were found significantly greater in national level Long jumpers comparison of state level Long jumpers whereas state level Long jumpers showed significantly greater values in percentage body fat comparison of national level Long jumpers.

EFFECT OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES ON ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL STRESS IN RELATION TO THEIR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF COLLEGE STUDENTS

For the study Random sampling method was used. Sample was selected from the Shaheed Udham Singh P. G. College, Rudrapur of Uttarakhand. The age categories of the students were 19 to 25 years. The samples were further divided in two groups by using purposive sampling.60 students were selected as a sample. The sample was further sub divided into two groups with 30 students in each group which were categorized as sports person and non-sports person. For collection of data Scale of academic stress (SAS) Scale of social academic stress (SAS) from Bisht Battery of scale, developed by Abha Rani Bisht (1987) and Scale of social stress (SSS) Scale of social stress (SSS) from Bisht Battery of scale, developed by Abha Rani Bisht (1987)tool has been used by investigator to collect data. Inventory was distributed to the subjects and they were guided to mark the relevant response which suits them. t-test and correlation was used to find the significant difference of academic achievement between sports persons and non-sports person.

THE EFFECT OF EIGHT WEEKS LEG EXTENSION TRAINING ON STRENGTH OF QUADRICEPS MUSCLES

This study was conducted to identify the effect of eight weeks leg extension training on the Strength of Quadriceps muscles. Forty students of M.P. (n = 40) consisting of twenty male (n = 20) and twenty female (n = 20); (age M = 21.33 1.50 years; height M = 168.93 8.75 cm; weight M = 63.12 13.12 kg) who were recruited by using the method of random sampling. These subjects were equally divided into two groups, the experimental group (n = 20) and the control group (n = 20) which respectively with a total of twenty subjects (male = 10; female = 10) in each group. The experimental group carried out eight sessions of leg extension training. The 1 repetition maximum (1RM) of Quadriceps muscles for both groups was obtained twice; pre-test and post-test. The results revealed that eight sessions of leg extension training induced significant improvement (t = 1.94, df = 38, p<. 05) on the Strength of Quadriceps muscles. However, the results also revealed that the control group did not shown a significant difference in the Strength of Quadriceps muscles between pre and post intervention (t=0.00, df=19, p>.05). These results suggest that the eight week leg extension training is an effective and suitable method to improve the Strength of Quadriceps muscles.
